(866) 383-0986
My cell phone rang about an hour ago. The caller id read 866-383-0986. I said “Hello”, and then waited through four seconds of silence. (This was obviously going to be a telemarketer.) On the other end was a man with a thick Indian accent named Sam. He asked for Michelle Righi. I asked if he meant “Michael”, and he said “of course.”
Sam indicated that he works for Domain Registry Support and that he needed my fax number to send me important information regarding one of my domain names. I told him that I never heard of Domain Registry Support. Sam asked if I was the owner of michaelrighi.com. I told him that I was. He indicated that there was an important domain name update (whatever that means) that I needed and that he would require my fax number to send it to me. I asked why he couldn’t just tell me this important information on the phone, and that’s when Sam tried to hang up.
Before I let him go, I asked how it was legal for him to call me since my cell phone number is on the Do Not Call Registry. Sam said, “We don’t care about the do not call registry because we aren’t selling anything. This is just a professional service call.”
I didn’t think companies were allowed to call numbers on the registry unless they have an existing business relationship with the person. Asking him about this, Sam indicated that Domain Registry Support was hired by Internic. I said, “Let me get this straight. You work for ICANN?” Sam told me he does. (Obviously a lie.) I ended the call by asking Sam to remove my number from his calling list.
Thirty minutes later I received another call on my cell phone. Again, the caller id read 866-383-0986. This time a woman with an Indian accent named Paula said hello. Paula read from the same script as Sam, and once again asked for my fax number. I asked Paula where she was located and she told me New York. I told Paula that I would like to speak with her manager, and to my surprise I was transferred to a gentleman named Thom Brice. Thom spoke with a South African/Australian/New Zealand accent and indicated that he was Paula’s manager. After getting his name, I asked Thom where he was located. He told me Florida. I asked why Paula answered “New York” to the same question. Thom’s quick reply was that the Domain Registry Support has multiple locations. I then asked Thom where he was physically located, and he finally admitted that he was calling me from overseas. I asked him if “overseas” meant India and he admitted that it did. I asked Thom for his phone number and he told me it was 800-591-7398. Sure enough, this is the number listed at http://www.domainregistrysupport.com.
I asked Thom how it was possible for him to legally call my number which is on the United States Do Not Call Registry, considering that his business has offices in the United States and therefore has to follow U.S. law. Thom explained that he is in compliance with the U.S. law since he is not selling anything. Wanting to know how they make their money if they don’t sell anything, I asked if his company is paid by ICANN. Going against Sam’s word, Thom told me that they are not. I then flat out asked him how his business makes money by collecting fax numbers and to my surprise he answered “there are ways.”
A few Google searches smarter, I know now that this is a well documented scam. According to a few web sites, this toll free number is supposedly registered to:
Media Direct Marketing Consultants
1822 North Bend Drive
Knoxville, Tn 37909
However, according to their web site their address is:
Domain Registry Support
11 Avenue of the Americas #60
New York, NY 10011-8436
If anybody else has dealt with this company, I urge you to file a complaint with as many people as you can, and please share your experiences here.
I just received a call from “Domain Registry Support” again. This time they called from a new number: 888-514-7411. Second verse, same as the first… they wanted my fax number to renew a domain. I asked, “Just to verify, you’re with Network Solutions, correct?” The gentleman responded, “That’s right.” God, when will this end?

I, too, received a call from this number, they are rather persistant if you don’t answer your cell. I received the first one just after 7, then I called the number back as I didn’t take my cell with me. Anyway, I got three more calls, but they were registering as unavailable calls. I finally answered as it appeared they would just continue to ring me otherwise. I Thought she was asking me something about a fedex number, not a fax number, but I may well have been mistaken. I kept trying to find out what she wanted, but couldn’t. She hung up on me after a bit of “I don’t understand what you want” conversation. I did call today and punch in the 2706 extension, it rang for a LONG time and someone answered with just “hello”. He said he was in New England (or Something). Anyway, he said it wasn’t the US. He couldn’t identify any more information about the company or why they would be calling me. They do have callers calling the US. I vote we just keep calling them and carrying on conversations. They have to pay for the minutes, I believe.
I received a call the other day, also from a man with an Middle Eastern Indian accent. He asked me some of the same questions as above and for my fax number. I hestinantly gave it to him and then after getting off of the phone thought twice about my actions. Well, today I received a very official looking fax from Domain Registry Support notifying me of an URGENT NOTICE OF DOMAIN EXTENSION. They are basically trying to get you to sign up for a .us website of the same name as your .com or whatever. I believe they are hoping to catch people off guard thinking that their web domain is expiring or that somone has tried to tie up there account. Oh well, I threw the fax away and went on with my day.
I just received a call at my business from 866-383-0986. I called it back because I thought it was a friend of mine that has an 800 number. The outgoing greeting said “please enter the extension you wish to monitor”. The greeting was definitely an Indian accent. They only called here once but have been calling for about 2 years now.

This company called me in November 2003. I thought it sounded ok and wanted to discuss it with my husband. They convinced me to give them my information and then call them back if I decided to cancel. In a few days, I called back and they told me that my account was cancelled.
On Febuary 3, 2004, the company again called me and I told them that I did not want them to do this. The man I talked to said that he needed a direct duplicate of the original call. When he said that I would have to say yes, that I authorized them to take them money. I got angry. He informed me that it was what had to be done and at the end of the call I could state that I did not want the transaction to be completed, that i wanted it canceled.
I did this and assumed that was the end of the matter. This week, I recieved a letter that they were going to take out the money. I called my bank and sure enough they had taken out $179.95. Now, conviently, they do not answer their phone lines. I have called both 866-383-0986 and 866-383-0987. I have even called BCI Financial Services, Inc. This company is the company that handles FNC transactions. Of course, they were no help. Their number is 386-267-0066. Address: 231 RIverside Drive, Suite C, Holly Hill, Florida 32117. Just got a call from Domain Registry Support, alerted my domain provider & filed a complaint at
http://reports.internic.net/cgi/registrars/problem-report.cgi
[The callers reached me on my unlisted number, had a thick accent, referred to a current domain & my email address, and fished for a fax number, saying their mail server is down, and gave the (800) 591-7398 number when I asked]
domainregistrysupport.com no longer has a web site - but the wayback machine at the internet archive fortunately does. There’s a “secret” link on the archived version of that page showing what looks like a hosting or registry sign-up page, ironically with a fax number! The fax number is 1-877-802-4336. The page can be accessed here:
http://web.archive.org/web/20050317220405/www.domainregistrysupport.com/faxbacksignup.htm
If you have difficulty reaching this company, perhaps this fax number is a good way to reach them.
Oddly enough, tracing that fax number leads back to a new URL:
www.domainsupportgroup.net with the same web site as the old one.
I receive these calls almost every day; however, they typically ask me if I own property at such and such address. I respond by saying no and take me off yourlist, but that obviously hasn’t worked. I will be filing a complaint and will no longer awnser these jerk offs.
I’ve been getting the 866-383-0986 number myself more and more frequently, three times today. My phone is in my car when I’m at work and I have missed calls from this number, never a message. Did some research, this may be repeated but here it is anyway:
Ran a search on the number itself which returned the following:
Active since 2005 with Teleglobe International Corp 800-567-1950
The website: www.vsnlinternational.com
which returns an address in Vashi, Navi Mumbai, India. A tracert ended with www.stcassociates.com, they have a New York address on their website.
I have more info if anyone is interested in specifics.
I got the same call….I did not even answer it…I tried to call it back and the call gets dropped….idiots.
I’m a DirectNIC subscriber, and they called my cell phone. Once I was at lunch and didn’t hear it, and they left no message. The second time, I picked it up and talked to an Indian (country of India) woman who followed the usual procedure that’s already been documented. I told her I had no fax, she confirmed my e-mail address and got my correct home address (they had the old one from a year and a half ago) and ended the call.
I then Googled the phone number and found this and various other things. I’ve contacted DoNotCall Registry and the BBB (NY division), and will be contacting DirectNIC about this.
As far as I am concerned, they need to be put out of business for deceptive business practices and, frankly, outsourcing jobs to India when the US could use a few jobs for its out of work people.
Here\’s what happens if you give them the #. They send you an official looking fax that urges you to protect (buy) domain names that are similar to yours (i.e you may own joblow.com and they are pushing joblow.us)
Received a call from 866-383-0986 today… The same guy as described above. The delay in answering, the Indian accent and the fact that I had never heard of, or dealt with, his “company” tipped me off. I had read about this scam before. I said, “I know this is a scam… Give it up” and hung up the phone.
Sending unsolicited faxes is a Federal crime. If you have received a fax from them please file a complaint with the FCC at
http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/complaints.html
If your number is listed on the Do Not Call registry please file a complaint at
http://www.donotcall.gov
I just got a call from “Sam” too from 866-383-0986. He said he was calling from Domain Registry Support. I told him that my registar does not make calls and to place me on the “Do Not Call List”. (I also registered with the US GOV Do Not Call List when they first started taking numbers.)
He said no that I misunderstood him and was calling from “support”. I told him to send his concerns to me in an email. He then told me no, he wouldn’t do that because I was “stupid” and then told me to “go to hell”.
About 2 minutes later, my complaint at www.donotcall.gov was complete.
During lunch today, I received a call from the (866) number. I answered, thinking it might be a company whose call I was anticipating. After several seconds of silence, with me repeatedly yelling “Hello???” the phone hung up.
When I got back to work I tried to find out on the internet who the number belonged to. After a couple of unsuccessful reverse-lookups, a Google search led me to this page…
Wow. It’s kinda creepy to find out you’ve just been a direct target of phone scammers. I don’t think I will ever trust another ‘domain service’–not even the ones I do business with–who calls my house.
Thanks Michael, for this blog…
Man, I registered my own personal domain with dotster.com a while ago when they had a sale $1 for 1 year. It’s just a personal re-directing page which is completely retarded.
Anyway, I got this phone call at 10:00am this morning at my house and my brother handed me the phone saying it was “Some Indian sounding guy that was hard to understand”. He had just woken me up and I didn’t know what was going on before I had a phone in my ear. The guy was asking about my domain and then asked for my fax number as well.
At first I told him I did not have a fax, so he asked if I had an alternate fax. I’m still half asleep and didn’t have time to google the number, but gave him my same house number since we have a fax machine hooked up to it when it needs to be.
I’m infuriated that I didn’t look it up sooner. If I get a single “fax” from them at my house number with no fax hooked up, I’m going to scream. I want to ring this guy around by the neck!!!
They’ve called us (866-383-0986) about 8 times the past 4 days asking for info and I’ve told them each time that our domain company does not call customers. They keep on going, I tell them to remove our phone number and stop calling us.
They keep calling back - maybe we should all start giving out a fax number … maybe one to the BBB, or directly to the DNC registry. Just a thought. Hehehehe.
Good luck!

Received call from “unknown†who wanted me to re mortgage with them.
Hard to understand their brand of English.
They gave me two call back numbers
866-383-2663 + 866-383-0987

I’ve been getting a call from these people *EVERY DAY* for at least a month or two, every time trying to sell me a mortgage.
Glad I finally googled the number. Any advice about agencies to complain to?
Got the first call from 866-383-0986 while on another call so I didn’t answer it. I googled the number before the second call came. This time number was from Unknown. I picked it up and the person named Sam started in with his domain registration company or something like that. Wanted to update my information. I told him that I wished to be taken off there calling list and I was on the do not call list. He got all pissy with me asking me why would I say this when he hadn’t even told me why he was calling. I told him I had no business dealings with his company and my names are registered through Dotster and everything was correct. He kept getting pissy and telling me he wasn’t trying to sell me anything… I finally told him to shut the fuck up and may have also called him a fucking cocksucker.
What a dick. Same company called me about a different domain about a month ago.
I have complained to interNic themselves to see if they can do anything about domainregistrysupport.com or any of its affiliates. If you look at the whois for domainregistrysupport.com you will find the contact email to be collectcallsecret@maktoob.com
both collectcallsecret.com and maktoob.com go back to this SAME domainregistrysupport.com for the WHOIS. If you go to maktoob.com you will find an Arabic website, that (among other things) endorses fringe Islamic groups like the Lebanese Communist Party. And DO NOT install the Alexa Toolbar that website tries to put on your computer! Who knows, perhaps these data mining/phishing attempts are eventually going to support radical Islamic groups like Al-Qaida.
Same phone call, they call me from the 866-383-0986 and UNAVAILABLE number almost everyday, sometimes at very odd hours. I ask them to take me off thier list, needless to say it doesn’t work. I am registered with the DO NOT CALL registry, and have filed a complaint. I do not even have a website. These people need to be put out of business. Report them at the info above!
They called again! This time they called from a number that you can actually call back. 1-866-279-7918. It goes to an automated message for a second, then you get that same damn Hindu woman. First thing is she asks for first and last name. I hung up on her. I built a listing for that 866 number with inter800.com so that anyone else getting these calls will know what the deal is. They ARE in the US and HAVE to abide by US laws. I think I’m going to file a lawsuit; I’ve complained to the FTC but they don’t care. I’ll try the FCC too besides filing complaints with the donotcall.gov website. This is getting personal!
I got the same call today on my CELL phone (that is NOT listed anywhere in conjunction with my domain name!).
I normally do not answer calls with ‘unavailable’ numbers but I was feeling fiesty and in the mood to yell at a telemarketer.
When I told the guy I did not have a fax number and I asked what he wanted, his response was,
‘I like the sound of your voice.’
I thought it was a dirty phone call and hung up.
I sure hope these clowns don’t continue to call me.
I will definitely not answer ‘unavailable’ calls any longer!
I got a call from these folks today. domainregistrysupport.com is domiciled in Panama: that’s why they’re not concerned about the US “Do Not Ca;;†registry. The e-mail address of the owner is at maktoob.com, an Arabic website.
What do these criminals hope to achieve by gathering fax numbers? What advantage does it provide them?
Ok, I just got a call (July 28, 2006 @ 4:15 pm PST) from this number 866-383-0986 with Unknown Name on my caller ID. Again it was man with an accent saying he needed to confirm my domain (I don’t have a domain). He didn’t want a fax number though, he wanted my address! I told him he had the wrong number and he protested still when I told him to Remove Me from His Call List and I hanged up. So, he still wanted my address even though I didn’t have a domain for him to verify and even though I told him he must have the wrong number…. Sounds very fishy. As my number is registered on the https://www.donotcall.gov/ registery, I promptly filed a complaint…
I just got a call from domainregistrysupport.com and reported them… thanks for the info on this…
everytime i tried to call it back it would hang up as soon as the otherside picked up….
only thing i’ve done recently online is talked to netgear tech support - i know this probably has nothing to do with that… but both times i had a really bad experience talking to the support techs…

Apparently the domainregistrysupport.com guys think their funny. Check out their registration at: http://www.enom.com/domains/whois.asp?DomainName=DOMAINREGISTRYSUPPORT.COM&submit.x=21&submit.y=6. They are from the state of World Trade Center in the country of PA. What a scam!
I just recently, in the past 5 days, have been receiving calls from (caller ID) 866-383-0986…thankfully, I am in the habit of not answering any calls on my cell that I do not recognize (I figure if they really need me they can leave a message). This may already be listed above (I am at work and cannot read EVERYTHING right now, but will), but who should I file complaints with? I have a few websites using www.powweb.com which I believe uses Network Solutions for domain name registration…
Obtain the fax number of your local congressperson and provide it to the caller. If possible, you may also want to obtain the fax number of your local FBI offic and provide that as well.
Got the same call from a foreign-sounding female. Generally, for these types of calls, I find that giving them their very own number back as the number they’re asking for works. When they asked for my FAX number I didn’t hesitate to reply with their number of (866) 383-0986.
They hung up in a hurry.
I can\’t believe what I\’m seeing, I just complained about this number to my neighbor, I decided to type it on line and see what comes up and I can\’t believe how many people he\’s harrassing.. I called him a certain name and thought it would resolve it, next thing I know I have some operator connecting his call to me, I can\’t stop this does anyone have any idea how to stop it???
I just had pretty much the same experience as everyone above, with the small exception that when I asked “from what corporation are you calling” I got the response - “you are being rude, I ask you question and you no give me answer!” Yadda Yadda Yadda. Biting my tongue to keep from going into a thirty minute tirade about foreigners as telemarketers I hang up on the guy. Surprise - surprise, he calls back yelling at me. Long story made just a little shorter - 3 total calls over fifteen minutes. Now I’m concerned because I hold almost 40 domains. Am I going to go through this for each one?
Tuesday, 22 Aug 2006 and I just received a straneg call to my cell phone (not published, nor ever used to register any domains). When I googled the number that hung up on me, I found this and other postings. Don’t you just hate scammers?
Yup…at 4:45PM today PDT I received the “infamous” phonecall from (866)383-0986. Wasn’t home…no message left.
I’m ready for the next one…thanks for previous suggestions (listed above) on how to deal with this.
Love the suggestion about giving these people the fax number of your local FBI office or Congressman/woman. Does the White House have a fax number??
I just received a phone call from this company, and was home to receive it. As others have said, I was asked to “confirm my address” in relation to a hardly used domain I’ve owned for a year or so (not the one linked from my name, I hasten to add).
I asked the individual phoning (who had an Asian accent, Chinese if I had to guess - I was raised in Hong Kong and am fairly familiar with such accents) whether he was with my domain registrar, and he said that no, he wasn’t. I informed him he had no business contacting me, and hung up on him.
As suggested here, I’ve reported the company to the FTC. I’d report them to the BBB as well, but there’s no listing for them.
As an aside, the address listed in Knoxville, TN is almost certainly fake. I live in Knoxville myself, and did a little digging. There’s no “North Bend Drive” in Knoxville, nor anything like it. There’s a “Northbend Circle” in Alcoa, TN - but that’s in a totally different zip code.
30 minutes after the first call, I received a second call from the same number - this time from a woman with a mild Indian accent. I informed her that I had already reported them to the Federal Trade Commission once today, and that I would do so again. I then hung up on her.
I had been receiving calls from the (866)383-0986 for the past couple of weeks. I don’t answer numbers I don’t recogzined, but after calling several times I searched the number through Yahoo. Found this site luckily! I have been anxiously awaiting their call and BINGO- it happened today. First thing out of the Indian man’s mouth was “Can I have your fax number?” What?? No friendly hello? I responded, “You are NOT gettin’ my fax number. I’ve looked you up and your nothing but a scam”. He told me he wasn’t trying to sell anything and he needed the fax number for my website. I told him I didn’t care what he was doing, and that he was still a scam artist. He hung up with no goodbye. Just one question… my phone number isn’t on my website. How did they match up my phone number with my domain name in the first place? Who’s fault is this? I’m registered through Godaddy.com. Do they give out this info?
Try giving them these #’s:
CIA Fax # (703) 482-1739
FBI NYC field office # (212) 384-1000
FBI Knoxville,TN field office # (865) 544-0751
According to all of the information that I have read here and other places, these guys are affiliated with these companies:

In any case, those three #’s should take care of them!
My wife received a call from 866-383-0986 on her mobile phone today regarding the one and only domain she has registered. Unlike many of the others who are using Network Solutions, she is using Go Daddy. She said they asked her for her fax number, but she did not want to give them a number as she considered the call a little strange. Based on the postings here and on http://www.pointmanspage.com/2005/04/26/866-383-0986/, I do believe they have been running some strange scam for well over a year.
This Number 866-383-0986 has been appearing on my caller Id box for about 2 months. When I answer it I get a delay then they hang up. Today my wife answered it and The man said he was offering mortgage rates. My wife said she wasn’t interested & he started yelling at my wife “why aren’t you interested, whats wrong with you” my wife hung up. I reported this number to the FTC do not call registry.
Blah: As I already noted, the Knoxville-based business is fake. The address doesn’t exist, and a quick check of http://www.tennesseeanytime.org/sosname/ finds there to be no business by that name in Tennessee either.
The same indian accented man called wanting me to validate like EVERYONE else
I did a little trick as someone else did, I told him my new address was 445 12th St. SW
Washington, DC 20554. I hope they like it when they discover they’ve been messing with the FCC head office!
A few considerations:
800 (866/877/etc) numbers are not physical numbers, they point to a line that exists *somewhere*. Once a company is done with a toll free number (common for numbers used for limited campaigns, less common for main #s they hang on to) it goes “in the cooler” and usually is retired for a 3 to 6 month period. After that, the telco makes it available again (keeps them from running out of numbers and maybe a certain combo spells out something someone wants), at which point it is used either for a temporary campaign or for a more permenant, main toll free number.
So, that this number called a few people in 2003 has no bearing on it actually being the same company as the one that’s calling now.
Looking at the domain name registration, it appears that the register is in Panama City, Panama. The above comment that they’re in the “country of PA” makes sense. Technically, .US is the US, .IE is Ireland, for example, and .PA is Panama. So nothing shocking there.
Their web server and name servers are located in Romania. Their name servers are both on the same /24, which means if someone wanted to knock them or their host offline, it’d be real easy and get their attention, I’m sure.

“They called again! This time they called from a number that you can actually call back. 1-866-279-7918. It goes to an automated message for a second, then you get that same damn Hindu woman.”
866-279-7918 is a Capital One number.
The lady I spoke with was clearing up an erroneous fee that Capital One was charging me on an account that I had closed (when I had closed the account, the previous customer service rep. zero’d the balance out but didn’t finalize the closure).
I’m certain the rep from 866-279-7918 was from Capital One as she knew the exact ammounts and dates of my final two payments, as well as the current erroneous charges (she did not ask for any personal information from me).
So once again (for anyone that finds this page thru Google, as I did)…
(866) 279-7918 is Capital One.

This number seems to be getting used in the UK now, had it crop up in missed calls a few times on my home number. When you dial 1471 to view the last number called it comes up with 08663830986. Today i was in and recieved the call, and was introduced to a nice Indian call center operative called Ivan. He told me he was calling on behalf of Fast Loans, a finance brokers dealing in sorting out debt matters and reducing monthly payments. He then proceded to ask me how long i had lived in my mortaged property, well not much of a guess that one was it? I didn’t give a reply. Unpeturbed he moved on to asking about high cost and amount loans? Bizare how a man thousands of miles away in India is gonna browse the UK for loans easier than a 37 year old resisdent can, but he insisted that he knew better. I never replied to any of his questions, he had my name wrong by about 7 letters short and knew very little about my circumstances. I think this is a cold call, but after reading about all the scams associated with this number in other countries i thought i would post just to make people aware of the numvber being recycled.
I summed up my refusal of his advise by saying i’m not an unintelligent person (although never a good speller hehe) who would never recieve financial advice from a foreign country even if he did send his UK advisor to my house. The line went quiet for about 15 seconds, i heard him say hello, i tried to reply then it went dead.
This may not be a scam, but i really think if thist Fast Loans had been a UK based company for some 17 years a Google search in UK only would have produced some results, even if it was just a list of their services. The only two links i can find with anything like FastLoans in its title is a USA based loan search engine, not a loan company. Or there is a FASTLoans ™ site which is for loans associated with the USA education service for students. Of the two, i’m not looking for loans in the USA or am i eligible for a US Student loan grant lol.
There maybe more, but thats all i can find in a web search my end.
Just thought i’d post this incase its of any use to those of you following this strange number or to any in the UK who are getting the missed calls.
Take care, and remember never to do financial dealing over the phone unless you dial them
Have fun,
Brian.
An Amused Englishman.
P.S. I have passed on what they said to my local Police, just incase someones following this number on our side of the pond.
I just got a call from them and as I don’t answer any calls from numbers I don’t know, I didn’t have the pleasure to deal with them. I had my suspected this so I searched just the number thanks.
I received the call from the 888-514-7411 during lunch, the same day that you filed your “update.” I sent them directly to VM to keep the phone from disturbing me, and there was a 3 second message consisting of various voices in a noisy environment.
I tried dailing the number out of curiousity — Sprint reports it as “blocked.”
I just found this site through google. I actually also just got called by the 888 514 7411 number. Nobody left a message so i decided to call back, all i got was a message about how the person at that extension is currently not available.
I’m afraid this could be the start of a lot of unsolicited calls now.
I just received a call from 888 514 7411 today, just like Rick from Texas did! They’re still at it, and it doesn’t look like we will be able to stop them! So I just wanted to get this other number out there so you know not to answer it either!
Wongerful news, Domain Registry Support’s phone number after hours goes to voice mail, then back to hello, then to voicemail in an endless loop. This means you can call them, and leave the phone all night - they pay for the call, and their voice mail fills up. 1.800.591.7398. Please share the number and enjoy. DO NOT CALL FROM CELL PHONES - it’s not free from cell phones.
I got a call from the 888-514-7411 number on my cell but didn’t answer it because I didn’t recognize the number calling. Did a quick search and came up here. Thanks for posting the info on the nature of the call - I added the number (and the 866 number above) to my contact list and gave them a special ring tone of their own - NONE. So they can keep calling me - I’ll never know it….
Here’s the number, among others, that has been calling me. 888-514-7411 I never get anyone to answer but they called me four times just today. When I hold on and say Hello, sometimes I hear a voice in the background, but no one answers. I am a disabled vet and I have severe abdominal problems that are aggrivated by stress and this company is stressing me out.
I have also been attacked by a mass of popups that are passing by my Norton Internet Securities pop up blocker. These popups are so bad that I cannot do any work in the mornings because they are always in the way and also spawn into my active window, but won’t let me go back to my work without closing my active window and starting again. These popups are not limited to these two companies, because there are many more and almost every one is registered at Tucows.com
Also, I have been having spam into my email trying to get my credit card numbers and paypal, or ebay passwords. It’s interesting that all of the above has been coming from a internet registering company called Tucows.com.
When I looked up Drivecleaner.com it shows Tucows as the Registrar and no other information.
When I looked WinAntiVirusPro.com it shows Tucows as the Registrar and no other information.
When I looked up the company that claims to be my Chase credit card company, which the url that I was to respond to was HashCode.com, it too showed the registrar of being Tucows.com but no other information.
Now I am finding out that these series of 800 numbers and their variants are companies that are writing to me because I own a very popular aviation website at http://www.yellowairplane.com and I am having an attack, from every angle, from a huge website.
Let’s look at this idea, is it that the bigger websites don’t want us small business companies to get ahead? Could they be spamming us in every way possible just to harass small business just to eat up our time and stop our web effort and push us out of business. I am wondering about this and thinking that this may be true.
If you have any info on this spamming please send me a letter at yellowairplane@yahoo.com I really want to know. If this is true about the intentional spamming, we will start the worlds largest class action suit in the world.
Let me know,
Owner, http://www.yellowairplane.com
Trying to figure out how to deal with this, been getting 866-383-0986 calls for a few day’s.
First call- took it course with “i dont need to remortgage, send info in the mail”
Second call- “didnt you call a little while ago? what’s your number si i can cll you back?…CLICK(hang up)
Called again today but missed the call, i know i’m gonna lose it when i get on the phone and unleas a barage of MF’s etc., but that may not do much good.
numerous calls from 866… Last one was a gentlemen???? with negro dialogue telling me he was Steve Johnson from Rhode Island.I live in Rhode Island… I told him that ‘i don’t know any black SJ’s, and he seemed insulted that I would refer to him as being black. I told him to stop calling, get my name and number off of list, and to go F** himself’. Oh well!, calls will probably resume tonight.
Getting the same phone calls 888-514-7411.. Talked to a lady last night and ended the conversation with “Dont ever f-in call me back again!”.. Of coruse I just missed another phone call from them.. Who can I file a harassment complaint with?
I just got a call from 888-514-7411 Domain Registration fuc on my cell. A very long pause then a woman running through a script about a domain name that I had stopped paying for years ago asked me for my fax number. When I told her I did not have one and wanted to use my email she tried a few times to talk, but I cut her off mid sentence and gave her my spam fested email. Which is retrospect is probably a bad thing, confirming that I infact answer this phone number. I’ve been getting mailings from the domain reneval places as well, usually just discarding them.
Next time I’m gonna say that the person who had this phone number before just died! And possibly give them the FBI fax# Cheers. Thanks for the post.
I have gotten this call at least 6 times. The last time today from 888-514-7411.
I waited long enough to find this website before a caller came online.
I just hung up when they ID’d themselves. Then I added their number to my cell with the name “SCAM”
I was called by this number twice. Once I called it back and it was an automated greeting that said “I am a jackass, please leave me a message” and it beeped.I hung up. I then got the 2nd call later and I said “Hello?” And then I heard “goodbye” and a click. WTF is this?
I called it back, and the greeting says:
Hi. I am a jackass, trying to waste everyone’s time. Please _________________________ in calling me back. Thank you
The long _______ is there because I have no idea what the person was saying.
Just got a call from 866-383-0986, but the message said “Trying to connect your call…trying to connect your call…trying to connect your call” so I hung up. I called it back to see who it was. Got some guy trying to sell me satellite connections for all my TVs. I told him I don’t have any TVs and to take me off his call list, which I’m sure he did
I got a fax from good ol’ Domain Registry Support.
It was filled to the brim with legal jargon stolen directly from ICANN’s URDP, trying to scare unsuspecting domain owners into action.
There is no opt-out or any attempts to disclose it’s a solicitation.
It only has the infamous 800-591-7398 phone number and official-sounding crap.
I reported them to the FTC regarding both unsolicited faxing, and domain slamming attempts.
Everytime I go by a payphone I call the 800 numbers back and leave the phone off the hook
Filed 888-514-7411 complaint with DNC Registry for call on 28 February 2007.
Received a call from this number this evening. A lady with a heavy accent (”Sandra”) called saying she was with Fidelity Mortgage. Knew it was a scam and I hung up on her.
I also got a call from a women and then a man with a thick Indian accent wanting my fax number for a domain name I had. After over six calls (over three days) with each of them taking turns I finally caved in and gave them a fax number.
From what I found on the web it was the fax number for the FBI office in Atlanta, Ga. I have a strange feeling that those folks were able to trace the call and find my little Indian friends. Presto … no more phone calls.
also got a call from a man with a thick Indian accent wanting my to talk to my daughter. I threatened them with deportation, and filed on a complaint on the Do not call registry. Think I may try filing a complaint with the FBI…….
got the same call many of you had–surly representative with a barely understandable indian accent. i haven’t had a telemarketing call on my phone in over three years yet i received TWO today. oddly enough, i just did some international travel planning online and had to enter my phone number for train tickets and some boutique hotels…anybody else have this experience.
866-383-0986 now they are called american lending network, after many hang-up, finally talking to someone who started sexually threatning myself and wife. this was after i told him i would not be doing business. they are definetely overseas and vile human beings.
I heard my 80 year old dad hang up the phone. A couple minutes later it rang again, dad said he wasn’t giving out any checking account info. I grabbed the phone off him and began to interrigate the Indian accented scammer. Claimed to be from a company called Medical Norwegian in Texas wanting my dad’s checking info to provide him a medical card. I continued to ask info about him, address, phone number. He demanded I put my dad back on the phone. HA HA I laughed. I told him if he gave me his name and phone number, I would have my dad call him back, yea right! He hung up! I sat my parents down and went over again how never to give out any info over the phone. Freekin Scammers!
I get calls from this number all the time. They never used to have their number show up on my caller ID, it used to be ‘unknown.’ I just got a call from them at 9:34 a.m. CDT. The same guy calls me, I can’t understand him at all. He’s always asked for Robert and I have told him for the last 10 calls to take me off their list. First of all, they have the wrong number, no one in my house is named Robert. Today was really frustrating because I kept asking where they were calling from and what they wanted. He kept saying something I couldn’t understand and then New York City. I asked him to spell out the company. He wouldn’t, he just asked for Robert again. I will also be filing a complaint!
Yeah, we just got a phone call from this number today. But what I think you guys should know is that , now, it appears, they’ve changed their ways. For us it was lady instead of a man. She said her name was Angelina and had some kind of accent; but not Indian. It was as if she was drunk or high or something and sounded really annoyed (as if there was some kind of feud going on between her and us). When we picked up, she said “Can I talk to _____?” and we replied “No, _____ is not here right now, _____’s out.” thinking that it was a telemarketer calling once again. Then, we were surprised when she asked “Where is _____ out to?” That’s when we realized that something was wrong. Then came another irrational question: “Why is _____ out?” We went along with it and tired to get her to hang up but she keep pressing us. Literally, she told us “Connect me to _____ RIGHT NOW. I want to talk to _____.” We jumped when she said “I know _____ is there.” I mean what the…!!! So, we gave the phone over to _____ and she still said “Connect me to _____. Don’t lie to me. I want to talk to _____.” Finally, after quite a bit of confusion and aggravation, this so-called Angelina gave up I guess and ended the call with “Forget it” before hanging up.
I thought this was worthy to note because they didn’t ask for any fax number from us or even mention anything about websites or domains. And it wasn’t even close to sounding like a call from any company. Like I said, it sounded as if someone had been, well, cheating on her.
We went along with the call because we thought it might have had some significance since it sounded urgent because it was like she had a personal vendetta or something. What I’m saying is that this number now seems to be venturing into OTHER ways to get information from you than just a fax and stuff about Domains. So, we thought this would be helpful into identifying this scam:
–for us, the call came through an operator. I dunno why but it did but it did. “Please wait while we connect you…Please wait while we connect you…”
–the called sounded COMPUTER GENERATED. The voice didn’t get any angrier nor did it elevate in volume, pitch, etc. There was also a “glitch.” “Angelina” said, if written in words, would’ve been something like “yourrrr-rr.” So, if you’re worried, like we were, that it IS indeed a valid call of some crazy drunk person, simply ASK THEM TO PRONOUNCE THE SAME WORD DIFFERENTLY since computers lack that ability (i.e. we have a strange last name so we simply asked “Oh, you mean [alternate pronunciation 1] or [alternate pronunciation 2]). If they keep saying the word the same way, well, it’s a clear sign you’re talking to a computer and being scammed.
Hope that helps more.
WHY WONT THE GOVERNMENT DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS??!! THIS IS OBVIOUSLY BIG ENOUGH TO DESERVE SOME KIND OF ACTION FROM THEM!!
I am trying to perfect service on Domain Support Group a/k/a Domain Registry Support. Apparently, the 511 Avenue of Americas address is not legitimate. My certified service was returned. Any one know of a United States entity to which this outfit is tied?
Hello,
I would just like to say this is most certainly a scan for somekind of information. I just got two phone from 30 minutes apart asking me if I had student loans then not no more then 2 weeks earlier I was aksed If I rent a house or have children.

I have a different problem that I’m sure is a scam but I don’t know how to find out what its about because I don’t want to phone someone I’m sure has some way to cost me. For well over a year I have been receiving phone calls from a machine that says. this is Kevin fields call be at 866 and I’m not sure or the rest of the number. He’ll call every day for a while then nothing then he starts again. Anyone know what this scam is about.
Hi
My friend is 90 years old and I help her with her bills. I saw a $399.99 check draft out of her account. she did not write the check and it said no signature required. It was from a company called express solutions. I called the bank and the only info they had was this number 866-383-0987. so far this is all the info I have and what I am learning from you.
